Dear stakeholder
FASSET RE-ESTABLISHED FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS
In announcing his Seta landscape to the media at Parliament this morning, Dr Blade Nzimande – Minister of Higher Education and Training
– stated that Fasset is due to be re-established for the duration of the third phase of the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDSIII),
1 April 2011 – 31 March 2016.
This announcement follows six months of intense speculation on which of the Setas would survive the skills development transition from the
Department of Labour (DoL) to the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). On 29 April this year, Dr Nzimande proposed both a framework
for NSDSIII as well as the new landscape, calling for comment and submissions to be made to the National Skills Authority (NSA). The NSA recommended
that Fasset have their mandate extended without change as they have “sufficient levy income to sustain their functions and serve their members.”
Fasset is pleased with the Minister’s decision and looks forward to working with our stakeholders for the next 5 years as together we continue to strive
to overcome the skills shortages in our sector and to make jobs and decent work opportunities available to more young people in our sector.
