Fasset Lifelong Learning training events are a skills
development initiative designed specifically to assist smaller
practitioners in the sector with ensuring they remain up to date with
all legislative developments pertinent to their professional
functioning. These seminars are offered free of charge to all Fasset
stakeholders. The topics include content which members can apply to
their own businesses and to advising their clients.
Fasset soft skills Lifelong Learning training events aim to improve the
soft skills of learners and all other interested employees in the
sector. The courses are therefore typically designed at a level suitable
for a post-graduate employee and more senior employees are very welcome
to attend, but should bear in mind the level at which the courses are
pitched when registering. |

| “No Shows” at Fasset-funded Events |
|
As custodians of public funds, I am sure that as a Fasset member you will agree it is imperative that Fasset maximises the use of stakeholder funds. We are unfortunately, currently experiencing a “no show” factor at our lifelong learning events. These events are often over-subscribed, and we are sometimes forced to turn away stakeholders who would really like to attend these sessions.
Rather than sit with vacant seats paid for from stakeholder funding, you will agree that it is not onerous to ask attendees to inform Fasset’s Call Centre five working days before an event, if they are unable to attend, or wish to be replaced by a colleague. This will enable us to implement efficient and cost-effective solutions, ensuring that we are able to extend these events to the greatest number of delegates possible. Fasset’s Call Centre can be contacted on 086 101 0001.
In addressing this issue, Fasset has started sending letters to individuals - who are registered for the event, but do not attend - and their managers, reminding them of the importance of alerting Fasset in the event that they are unable to attend a session.
Your co-operation in this regard is greatly appreciated.

| CPE now known as Lifelong Learning |
|
| Fasset’s term for Continual Professional Education (CPE)
has undergone a name change. The new name is “Lifelong Learning” and
will more accurately align to the purpose of these free events hosted by
Fasset in terms of the Department of Labour’s National Skills
Development Strategy and will differentiate from commonly understood
definitions of CPE. |

| Lifelong Learning Topics |
|
| Fasset funds free training events on topics of a technical,
legislative and ‘soft skills’ nature. Unfortunately we do not hold
events on topics such as GAAP, Estates, IFRS etc … Our topics are of a
technical, but non-core nature. The professional institutes offer the
technical accounting and taxation topics. If you have recommendations
for topics to be covered in our Lifelong Learning programme, please send
an email explaining the type of topic and why this need exists to
fassetcallcentre@fasset.org.za. |

| Certificates of Attendance at Lifelong Learning Events |
|
Fasset members may log on to our Seta Management System (SMS) to download certificates of attendance in respect of delegates that have attended events. This service is only available to Fasset registered firms, who have a registered Skills Development Facilitator (SDF) with the Seta. The SDF must use their logon details to access SMS (logon details may be obtained from the Fasset Call Centre). The certificates are downloadable in the Benefits section (follow the link from the Levies section) of SMS.
Delegates from non-Fasset registered firms that attend the events will not be able to make use of this service. Please contact the call centre to request certificates of attendance.

The Role of the SDF and New Developments in Skills Development. |

Fasset invites registered members to join us in a one-day workshop that will cover the role and main functions of the Skills Development Facilitator (SDF), as well as recent changes and new developments in the skills development environment. | Please Note |
-
The dates provided for each venue are proposed dates only and are therefore
subject to change due to venue availability, etc.
-
Invitations and booking forms are mailed out and posted to the website
approximately six weeks prior to commencement of an event.
-
A Confirmation of Registration document is provided to all stakeholders who
register for a course and attendees are advised to ensure receipt of same or to
enquire at our Call Centre.
-
No-shows at Fasset's free Lifelong Learning roadshows is
becoming an increasing concern due to the rising cost of
wastage caused by stakeholders who book a seat at a training
event and then do not attend the training session. Not only
is this no-show issue causing a significant amount of
unnecessary expense, but it is also rude, inconsiderate and
disrespectful, not only to Fasset, as the host, but also to
all Fasset levy paying members who are funding the training
intervention via unclaimed grant monies. We urge all
stakeholders to please only book onto a training session if
you intend to actually attend the training and to please
ensure we are advised timeously should a late problem
prevent you from attending your confirmed event.
-
The deadline date for registration enables us to make all our logistical
arrangements and thereafter we make every effort, but cannot always accommodate
all specific requests. Delegates who register after the closing date may, for
example, not be included on the attendance register and Fasset may be unable to
accommodate special dietary requirements.
-
Overcrowding of venues has resulted in delegates becoming somewhat
un-cooperative and if this continues we will have to refuse late comings or
over-bookings.

|
| Venue Selection |
|
-
Fasset runs Lifelong Learning Events where we are
guaranteed a minimum of 10 - 15 attendees. As you can no
doubt appreciate, we cannot respond to single and / or
unique requests. We will continue to monitor the need for
changing or adding venues on an ongoing basis.
-
Fasset is at times able to extend these events to additional venues, should the demand warrant this. Stakeholders who would like us to schedule an additional venue within their preferred province or town, must specify the town when registering for a specific seminar, 14 days before the commencement of the first event (this allows Fasset to advertise additional venues to all delegates and prevent wasted travel). We will consider scheduling additional venues where there is a demand by 14 or more delegates, across a range of Fasset-registered employers, for a specific venue. Delegates who specify an additional venue will be notified in writing of the venue and date.
-
Any specific venue which is offered and has to be cancelled three times due to
low numbers will be removed from our venue list. Stakeholders are to note that
the following venues have been removed from our standard list of venues based
on this principle:
-
Kimberley (except for the annual Budget and Tax update in March which
continues to draw significant numbers in this area)
-
Upington
-
Tzaneen for soft skills training. Technical
training will continue to be offered here where good
attendance numbers occur

| Fasset Lifelong Learning Travel Claim Policy |
|
- Refunds for travel costs incurred are ONLY available to
Fasset levy-paying members who are up to date with their
levies.
- Only one claim per organisation per 4 delegates will be
considered.
- Refunds for travel costs will only be paid to the
employers of delegates who travel in excess of a 300 km
roundtrip to attend a training session where this is not
offered in their ‘home town’.
- Travel expenses are reimbursed at a rate of R3-28 per
kilometer.
- Travel claim forms are to be obtained at the seminar. The
form is to be completed in full and faxed to Fasset according
to the instructions on the form and before the deadline date
detailed.
- Delegates who choose to travel to ‘away’ venues will not
be paid a travel claim.
- Claims will only be paid where closest venues are fully
booked and delegates are requested to move to another venue
and this proof will be kept on file by Fasset and all claims
verified against this.
- Travel claim refunds to the employer will be processed and
payment made via electronic funds transfer (EFT) within a
month of receipt of the claim form.
- Delegates will also be required to either arrive at the
venue with or later fax together with their travel claim form
a copy of a cancelled cheque or a organisation letterhead
reflecting the organisation’s banking details.
- Delegates are obliged to monitor whether the payment has
been received in their accounts, and are required to contact
Fasset immediately if they anticipate any delay.
