| On 21 July 2003, Fasset was officially
recognised as an Investors in People organisation, an achievement of which we
are very proud. Investors in People is a new national standard, based on an
existing standard developed in the United Kingdom, which seeks to promote good
practice in people development. It is an exciting international benchmark for
companies who believe that people are their most important asset. This is
certainly the case at Fasset.
| When Fasset was accepted by DoL’s
Investors in People Project (SA) as a pilot delivery partner, we decided to
implement the Standard internally, starting with a process of consultation.
Management and staff were introduced to the Standard and all were involved in
the development of our commitment statement, “We want to Invest in People
because we believe that people are the basis of our organisation’s growth and
value.” This statement reflects the spirit that exists amongst Fasset staff.
| We are also proud of the fact that Fasset achieved
accreditation after our first assessment.
| We now face the exciting challenge of
continuously improving from this strong position and the assessment report has
provided us with some very useful points in this regard. Fasset will undertake
a review in two years time, but in the meantime, we shall be continually
growing and improving. |

July 2007: Investors in People Update
Stakeholders are to please note that IIP activities have been suspended pending a decision from DoL on the way forward. |
| Investors in People |
| Investors In People (IIP) is an International Standard
that sets a level of good practice for improving an organisation's performance
through its people. This Standard has been adopted by the Department of Labour
and is currently being piloted in a number of companies and organisations
throughout South Africa.
| The standard is outcomes based and is based on the four
principles of Commitment, Planning, Action and Evaluation. Within these four
principles there are 12 indicators that show whether an organisation meets the
Investors In People standard. |
If you would like additional information on the IIP
standard or the IIP pilot project, please contact the Fasset Call Centre on 086 101 0001. |
Following our recognition as an IIP organisation in
July 2003, Fasset committed itself to the following target for the period 1
April 2004 to 31 March 2005: |
By March 2005, an average of 20 enterprises per sector,
(to include large, medium and small enterprises), and at least five national
government departments, to be committed to, or have achieved, an agreed
national standard for enterprise-based people development. |
We have done so because we believe that the IIP
Standard is an exceptional international Standard to benchmark good practice in
people development. |
To date, Fasset has exceeded the target set in that 22
organisations had commited to achieving the standard by March 2005. Fasset,
SAICA and SAB&T were among the 1st three in the sector to achieve the
standard. During the financial year, 2004 – 2005, four other organizations
achieved the standard: Parker & Associates, Erasmus Rekenmeesters,
Accenture and Logista. Fasset congratulates them on their achievement. |
As a pilot delivery partner, Fasset, with support from
the IIP project, will be working with the rest of the 15 organisations in
achieving the IIP Standard. Through this pilot project Fasset will be able to
assess the Standard, mechanisms for achievement and the efficacy of the IIP
Standard in Fasset's sector. |
Going forward, the new NSDS targets indicate that firms
achieving a national standard of good practice in skills development as
approved by the Minister will automatically get 50% of levies paid and for the
period the standard is maintained. |
To date, the Minister has not indicated that the
national standard will be the IIP standard and Fasset will advise stakeholders
once confirmation has been received. |
